Pitcher's Widow Outraged As Killer Draws a Walk

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –  The man who murdered a former Atlanta Braves pitcher in the 1990s was released from prison 10 years early, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

WPBF reports Neal Evans was charged in 1997 with the 1995 murder of 30-year-old Dave Shotkoski. Shotkoski was walking back to his hotel room while in spring training with the Braves in West Palm Beach, Fla., when he was gunned down during a botched robbery.

Florida Department of Corrections records show Evans had been jailed at least five times before the shooting for offenses including burglary, grand theft auto and cocaine possession.

Evans was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 27 years in prison. However, he was released 10 years early, reportedly for good behavior.

Shotkoski's widow Felicia told WPBF she feels everyone in the community should be concerned about Evans' release, as "they're the potential victim of a convicted murderer."
