2 sought after Italian nuclear executive shot
May 7th 2012, 14:14

GENOA, Italy –  The chief executive of an Italian nuclear company was wounded in an attack Monday by a gunman on a motorcycle, with authorities suggesting an anarchist group may be to blame.

Roberto Adinolfi, the head of Ansaldo Nucleare, was gunned down near his home in the northwestern port city of Genoa, Sky Italia TG24 reported.

The gunman fired three shots, one of which hit the businessman in the right leg. Adinolfi was taken to the hospital and was expected to recover.

Police were hunting for two people -- the shooter and an accomplice who was driving the motorcycle.

Prosecutors suspected that an anarchist group was behind the attack due to the type of semiautomatic gun that was used, the ANSA news agency reported, without providing further explanation or identifying the group.

Anarchists are suspected of carrying out a series of attacks in Italy, including a letter-bomb campaign in 2010 targeting embassies.

Ansaldo Nucleare designs, builds and services nuclear plants. It is a subsidiary of Ansaldo Energia, which is owned by Italian defense giant Finmeccanica.

It was not known why Adinolfi was targeted.
