Bee Gees Co-FounderRobin Gibb Dies at 62
May 21st 2012, 00:22

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb died Sunday at age 62 after a long battle with cancer, the singer's family said in a statement.

"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time," the statement posted on robingibb.com said.

Gibb, who sold 200 million records in a career spanning 45 years with the Bee Gees, developed pneumonia and slipped into a 12-day coma in April as he fought colon and liver cancer.

Gibb's health problems began in October 2010, when he had emergency surgery to treat a blocked bowel. He then had further surgery to treat a twisted bowel -- the condition that killed his twin brother Maurice nine years ago at the age of 53.
