Cops Probing Shooting Involving Ex-NFL Star Seau
May 2nd 2012, 18:55

DEVELOPING: Police were investigating a possible gunshot at the home of NFL great Junior Seau, according to reports.

TMZ reported that the 43-year-old linebacking legend was found dead and that police suspected suicide, but that report was not yet confirmed. Fox 5 San Diego reported dozens of police officers outside of Seau's home in the 600 block of The Strand, a posh beachfront stretch in Oceanside, just outside San Diego. Other officers were going in and out of the home and had cordoned off the home with yellow crime tape and were keeping bystanders and reporters away from the property.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said they are sending technicians to Oceanside, but they would not say what address they were going to. The San Diego Union Tribune reported that police responded to a 911 call at 10 a.m. local time.

The 10-time All-Pro linebacker, who played the bulk of his storied pro career for his hometown San Diego Chargers, lives in Oceanside, Calif., just outside San Diego. Seau has had a troubled retirement, driving his Cadillac Escalade off a 30-foot coastal bluff in Carlsbad 2010 after being arrested for attacking a woman. He later said he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Seau left USC after his junior year and was the fifth player chosen in the 1990 draft. He played 13 years for the Chargers before joining the Miami Dolphins and ending his illustrious, 20-year career with the New England Patriots.
