Gunman Takes Hostages In Real Estate Office
May 25th 2012, 19:46

URGENT:  A gunman took an unknown number of hostages inside an Indiana real estate office Friday, police said, prompting officers to shut down nearby streets and surround the building with guns drawn.

Valparaiso Police Sgt. Michael Grennes said police received a call at 10:05 a.m. with a report that a gunman had entered the Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office. He told reporters at the scene that some people had been released from the building, but he couldn't say how many still were inside Friday afternoon or whether anyone had been injured.

Grennes would not say if the gunman has made any demands, but said he did not believe the gunman was an employee of the real estate agency.

The Times of Munster reports that FBI agents were seen entering the building about 40 miles southeast of Chicago shortly after noon.

Mike Coggins, a salesman at Brown Tire of Valparaiso about a block away, told The Associated Press he had spoken to workers at another business next door to the Prudential office who thought they heard gunshots. Calls to that business rang unanswered Friday afternoon.

"Right now they've got everything blocked off," Coggins said of officers on the scene.
