DEVELOPING: Arrowhead Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, was placed on lockdown early Saturday morning after police say a player shot and killed himself after fatally shooting his girlfriend at a house nearby.
Police confirmed both the player and the girlfriend have died.
The couple reportedly argued before the player shot her multiple times and then drove to the stadium located less than 10 miles away from the home, police tell Fox4KC.com.
Police have not released the identity of the player, but have confirmed that he is a 25-year-old team member.
The team later released a statement on the shooting.
"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation," the statement said.
Local reports say police responded to a residence where a woman said her daughter was shot by her daughter's boyfriend, who is a Kansas City Chiefs player.
Police reportedly arrived at Arrowhead Stadium to find a male with a handgun to his head in the parking lot of the practice facility, speaking to two team officials.
A team spokesman told police the player thanked Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel for all they had done for him before shooting himself in the head, The Associated Press reports.
Police confirmed that the male who shot himself is the suspect in the shooting at the first location.
There was a 6-month-old in the home at the time of the shooting, Fox4KC.com reports.
The Chiefs have a win-loss record of 1-10 this season, and are scheduled to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
