'WE NEED CLOSURE': Police Seek Clues in Minn. Woman's Suspected Death
Mar 2nd 2013, 10:23

ST. PAUL, Minn. –  St. Paul police set up a special tip line Friday to help find a missing Minnesota woman believed dead and piece together the movements of her husband, who was charged with murder after investigators found "copious" amounts of blood evidence in the couple's home.

Kira Trevino, 30, was last seen the night of Feb. 21 as she left work at the Mall of America, but authorities found so much blood in her car and home in St. Paul that they believe she is dead. Her husband, Jeffery Dale Trevino, was charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree murder.

"This was an extremely violent act, and we need closure," St. Paul police Sgt. Paul Paulos said. "The tip line is actually for Kira. ... It's to find out where she's at, where she went, and to really help us complete our puzzle."

Paulos said anyone who saw anything suspicious between the hours of about 9 p.m. on Feb. 21, a Thursday, and about 10 a.m. the next day should call authorities. He extended the plea to anyone within a 100-mile radius of the Twin Cities and into Wisconsin, saying Kira Trevino's body could be well outside the metro area.

According to the criminal complaint, a security camera at a gas station near the couple's home showed a man put gas in Kira Trevino's car at about 2 a.m. last Friday, then drive toward the entrances to Interstate 35E instead of taking the most direct route back to the couple's home. The image is not clear enough to identify the man.

Nearly eight hours later, at 9:45 a.m., security cameras at the Mall of America recorded Kira Trevino's car, a white four-door Chevy Cobalt, entering a mall parking lot. The video isn't clear enough to show who was in the car, but it showed a person at the back of the vehicle throwing something aside. The video shows the person leaving the car and getting into a cab that had GPS. The cab dropped the passenger off near the Trevinos' home.

"Once again, it's imperative. If you heard anything, saw anything, please call," Paulos said. "She's missing. We need to find her."

When asked if authorities believe Jeffery Trevino might have dumped his wife's body between the hours of 2 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., Paulos said: "That's kind of what we're looking at."

Jeffery Trevino's attorney, John Conard, said Thursday he believes his client is innocent.

Authorities found the car at the Mall of America. There was evidence of blood on the car and on the trunk liner, which was found near the vehicle. According to the criminal complaint, investigators also searched the couple's home and found "copious" amounts of blood evidence throughout the house and signs of an extensive effort to clean it up.

The tip line is (651) 560-3277.
