Amateur prospector finds 11-pound gold nugget Jan 17th 2013, 19:58 Published January 17, 2013 FoxNews.com An amateur prospector is looking to cash in after uncovering a massive gold nugget in Australia, estimated to be worth more than $300,000. The golden discovery was made at a prospecting area outside Ballarat in the country's Southeast area, and weighs 177 ounces, ABC News reports. The prospector, who wished to remain anonymous, found the nugget with a metal detector and has turned to a gold shop owner for help in finding a buyer. Cordell Kent, who owns The Mining Exchange Gold Shop in Ballarat, told ABC News that out of 800 prospectors on his books, only a few have ever found a nugget that weighs more than 100 ounces.
