LAKE CHARLES, La – A United Airlines flight attendant remained hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday afternoon after severe turbulence shook a plane traveling from Houston to New York's LaGuardia airport.
The flight attendant was one of at least three injured when the flight hit turbulence shortly after departing George Bush Intercontinental Airport late Tuesday night, KPLC-TV reported. It diverted to Louisiana, landing at Lake Charles Regional Airport.
Two others were treated at a hospital and released.
Passenger Jeff Hornback said, "We were about 30 minutes into the flight and the flight attendants were preparing to serve drinks. Right about that time we hit some really severe turbulence and ... the flight attendants flew up and hit the ceiling of the plane and immediately were slammed down to the floor of the plane."
He added, "I heard both the pilot and a flight attendant say that they had been flying for 20 or 30 years and had never seen anything like what they saw today."
Storms that swept through Texas on Tuesday night caused flights from Houston to be delayed and diverted.
