One day to go before the election President Obama and governor Romney essentially are locked in a -- and interesting analysis of media coverage.

Of the presidential candidates caught our attention.

According to the pew research center's Project for Excellence in Journalism before the first presidential debate.

President Obama had the edge in terms of favorable media coverage 22% of the coverage -- got was positive 51% -- 27% negative.

But after the first debate the numbers essentially -- with -- governor Romney getting 20% positive stories.

50% mixed and 30% unfavorable.

So and the mainstream media treated both candidates equally.

Let's bring in.

Alan Colmes is host of the Alan Colmes radio show also a fox contributor and author of the book.

Thank -- the liberals for saving America and why you should so Jim I imagine you looked at these results and said surprise surprise.

Well not really because it still showed governor Romney getting negative press after October 3 that was kind of striking I mean look even President Obama admits that he was quote asleep.

Unquote during during that that first debate and in October 3 and in Denver.

And yet even after Romney was a huge victory the press still -- to be negative against them and also -- I would point out just -- of the viewer be confused here.

-- the Pew Center survey which shows it on net over this year.

President Obama has gotten much better press and then governor -- out over the whole course of the period of time that the survey ends on October 21 that was to take two weeks ago.

Since then we've seen another -- reversion back -- the norm I think.

Alan you would agree that the press ought to be fair idea sharp -- are they.

Yes what the press go to the momentum is there was certainly more lament that the Mitt Romney after the first debate and he got certain as you see of the pew study reversal.

Of where the numbers work in terms of after October 21 and certainly what's happened over the last week sir -- if you what is -- about press coverage itself.

The hurricane probably we doubt it to the favor of Barack Obama in terms of press -- he was front and center as of some believe that patients up.

The press go to the momentum is I don't think as a whole you say the -- automatically by its although I know.

Conservatives feel that way and I think conservatives probably you're -- it so that when Romney loses they can say what the president.

Dan Gainer is from the Media Research Center he wrote a piece on foxnews.com.

That I would urge our viewers to check out but here's one thing he writes he says.

The top issue to voters -- the economy but you'd never know it from the news coverage.

Even the GOP primary moderator is pushed social issues.

To give team Obama ample distractions.

From the 23 million under and unemployed.

Jim what do you think.

I think that's I think he's -- I think that if this had been you know President Bush presiding over this is this exact same economy.

Homelessness and unemployment and misery would be that would be the lead story.

Every -- but let me -- as Alan mentioned hurricane let me give another example -- that today's New York Times.

The headline is inside of Manhattan skyline living for long and our concerns about.

The neighborhood known as rockaway queens where mean there's no power no light no nothing.

And this story is gonna hurt Mayor Bloomberg badly in his legacy in in New York City however.

If you go back seven years -- Hurricane Katrina.

I'm -- that news -- about that storm was how President Bush and -- Michael brown and every failed and you barely heard about mayor Nagin and governor Blanco.

Now strangely enough the situation reversed and it's Bloomberg taking them take the blame.

For the storm and and not doing better for disposed of this post to president -- if this -- bush.

Right now you be seeing a split screen of bush.

Campaigning and then people being miserable and there are wrecked houses about that back home in -- we -- we heard from David Lee Miller earlier to.

with -- the -- because Katrina was a the magnitude of Katrina.

In terms of what have represented nationally.

Was not specific to a neighborhood in New York overall design Kazuo -- president for the president is is not I mean and the president of the president all the people was a matter whether the storms that -- the media is focused in that particular case of the story of one woman.

And making it look -- Bloomberg actors -- by the way I don't even know what party Bloomberg yes he's an independent so they try to make Bloomberg look bad because he's left there because he's right.

Now trying to make Bloomberg look bad because he's not the president you have to escape my -- is taking the -- I look there's another bad hurricane sandy was new York city of New York State it was New Jersey got the prize biggest.

Hit of all what and yet again there's no there's not.

That's that the kind of agonizing anguish coverage Anderson Cooper wearing an enormous for two months out of the storm.

-- talk about how terrible bush -- Chris -- republic gets a good coverage in New Jersey he got very favorable coverage was it because he's a Republican was because I got a -- recognize it was praising Obama much you know everybody -- got -- only reason the media covered everything was because he -- in the Obama otherwise the governor of New Jersey where the storm -- would not have -- coverage.

He would have gotten -- coverage out they got more coverage and more affection because he praised Obama he -- because Obama did a good job be Christie did the right thing by president.

Well.

I don't know people down there you know in the impact zone in those dark skyscrapers would say good job right now I mean it's a week out and they still have no heat and no -- but are they blaming particular politicians -- well.

Will see that the deadline there's -- they're blaming a system they're blaming -- in the national media aren't connecting the dots that actually president vomit and drug agreement I am meeting up all of -- time here with you guys I love talking to you about -- say goodbye.

Allen and Jim thanks very much thank you thank you it's a game.
