BEAVERTON, Ore. – A 38-year-old Beaverton driver dangled from a bridge several feet above Highway 217 for nearly an hour after his pickup truck crashed through a guard rail. Matthew Alan Hamilton was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after firefighters plucked him from the hanging truck using a ladder with a basket. Beaverton police say he was arrested for DUI and would be taken to jail when he leaves the hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The crash shut down part of the busy roadway for several hours until the truck could be removed with a large crane. The Oregonian reports that the wheels of the truck caught on part of the overpass and apparently kept it from falling. There was no immediate word on how the crash occurred. | |
