Update to a story unfolding live on happening now yesterday we saw smoke pouring from the underbelly.
Of a massive plane at Logan International Airport turns out to be a Boeing dreamliner.
-- the National Transportation Safety Board is now launching a full investigation this could be just one of several problems with the dreamliner.
Which was launched with so much fanfare.
Dan Springer has details for us from Seattle.
edge on the National Transportation Safety Board has a team in Boston -- Now investigating what they are calling 787 blowing smoke event -- happened shortly after all the passengers and crew had gotten off the plane at Logan Airport.
They've just taken a twelve or Japan airlines flight from Tokyo.
A maintenance workers smelled smoke in traced it to a compartment near the back of the dreamliner which holds the lithium battery that powers the plane when it's not fly.
A battery eventually exploded the cabin filled up with small but nobody was hurt I had this happened during a flight it -- been catastrophic.
And it as the list of electrical problems the 787 has experienced.
Since there was a major fire during a test flight 2010.
In December there were three less serious electrical problems -- united flight from Houston to Nevada had to be diverted.
The same problem -- Qatar Airways plane last a week later.
Then -- united plane was taken out of service to replace a power panel and a generator.
The big concern is the 787 uses a lot more electricity than other planes and the problems people current.
It's all electrical power.
And that generates a lot -- he just enormous amount of heat that therefore has to be cooled.
And if if you don't cooler than you have failures in the electronics -- you have failures in systems and so on.
A Boeing says -- looks like yesterday's fire was due -- low battery overheating and is not related to the other problems.
Still it is a big concern for a company that has sunk billions of dollars into this new plane is perhaps many years away from breaking even.
But it hasn't been all bad news for the dreamliner all Nippon Airways has been flying them for over a year.
And reports good performance and a 21% fuel savings.
Still -- Boeing stock is down more than two dollars and fifty cents from yesterday's open and how high yesterday so obviously investors.
Are worried about this latest incident involving a Boeing 787 John.
They get to the bottom of it quickly Dan Springer.
Thanks.
