2 missing, 1 dead after mudslides and flash floods hit Colo. Aug 11th 2013, 07:01 MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. – A man's body has been found beneath debris left by a fast-moving mudslide in Colorado, and authorities are looking for three people who have been reported missing. Heavy rain yesterday triggered flash flooding and mudslides in the area burned by last year's Waldo Canyon Fire west of Colorado Springs. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says the body was pulled from beneath "significant amounts of debris" on U.S. Highway 24 in Manitou Springs. Authorities say the body was not in a vehicle when it was found, and the man was not carrying any identification. The National Weather Service says the area is vulnerable to flash floods because the scorched soils don't absorb as much water as they normally would. | |
