Researchers continue to dig for student remains at reform school site

MARIANNA, Fla. –  Researchers will exhume dozens of graves for a second day at a former Florida reform school where students say they were abused.

University of South Florida researchers were set Sunday to continue the slow, painstaking process of unearthing remains in the hopes of identifying the boys who were buried at the now-closed Arthur G. Dozier School in the Panhandle. The digging and work will go on through Tuesday.

Researchers are also hoping to learn how the boys died. Former inmates at the reform school have detailed severe beatings by guards during the 1950s and 1960s.

Ten families have contacted researchers in hopes of identifying relatives that might be buried at Dozier.
