Man sets himself on fire on the National Mall Oct 5th 2013, 10:29 WASHINGTON –  A man who reportedly poured a can of gasoline on his head before setting himself on fire Friday in the middle of Washington's National Mall was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man, who was not immediately identified, was alone at the time and police and fire officials said they had no information about his motive. A Park Police spokeswoman said she had no information about him saying anything or displaying any signs before setting himself alight. Witness Katy Scheflen told Associated Press passing joggers took off their shirts to help douse the flames after the man poured the contents of a red can of gasoline on himself and lit it. A police department spokesman said he was conscious and breathing at the scene. D.C. Fire Department spokesman Tim Wilson said the man has life-threatening injuries.
