Florida mom saves daughter from shark attack
Mar 16th 2012, 14:37

A Florida mother is being credited with saving her 15-year-old daughter from a shark attack off of New Smyrna Beach.

Valeh Levy and her daughter, Sydney, were paddling with their surfboards Wednesday when the girl was suddenly pulled underwater, NBC affiliate WESH-TV reported.

"She got back on her board, and there was her ankle … She put her ankle up, and she looked at it, and there was blood coming off of it," Levy told the station.

The shark then managed to drag the teen underwater a second time, according to Levy, who said she sprang into action by grabbing her daughter onto her board.

"I said, 'There's no way this thing is going to kill my daughter,' and I grabbed her shoulders, and I pulled her up on my board," she told the station.

An ambulance was reportedly already at the beach because another beachgoer, 17-year-old Nick Romano, had been attacked be a shark moments before.

The girl was rushed into surgery but was released from the hospital a few hours later, the station reported.
